RideWave — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 August 2026
RideWave ("RideWave", "the app", "we", "us") is a group motorcycle-riding
app that lets riders see each other on a live map, talk over voice while they
ride, share music, and reach help in an emergency. This policy explains what
data the app processes, why, and who it is shared with. We do not
sell your personal data.
If you have any questions, contact us at
filipv65@gmail.com.
1. Data we process and why
- Account information — an email address (for a registered
account) or an anonymous guest identifier, plus the display name you choose.
Used to sign you in and identify you to your riding group.
- Precise location — while a ride is active, your GPS
location is shared in real time with the other riders in that ride so
everyone appears on the live map, and is used to draw routes, estimate
arrival times, and calculate ride statistics (distance, speed). Aggregate
ride stats are saved to your ride history; we do not keep a separate
long-term log of your movements.
- Microphone / voice — when you join a ride's voice chat,
your audio is streamed live to the other riders in that ride. Voice is
real-time only; we do not record or store it.
- Music and media on your device — with your permission,
the app reads your local audio library so you can play it, and can read the
"now playing" information of other media apps to display it. This stays on
your device; the only thing shared with your group is the current song
title, so riders can see what you are playing.
- Emergency contacts — contacts you add for the SOS
feature. On an SOS, the app may place a phone call to your first emergency
contact and share your location with your ride.
- Ride and social data — rides you create or join, your
friends (added by a friend code), notifications, and saved ride history
(distance, duration, average/max speed, lean angle).
- Diagnostics and usage — crash reports and basic usage
analytics that help us fix bugs and improve the app, plus your device's
battery level, shown in the ride display.
2. Permissions
- Location (precise) — live map, routing, ETA, ride stats.
- Microphone — group voice chat.
- Music / media & notification access — play your local
library and read other apps' playback info.
- Phone (place calls) — call your emergency contact on SOS.
If denied, the app just opens the dialer instead.
- Bluetooth — route voice/music to Bluetooth audio devices
(e.g. a helmet headset).
- Notifications & foreground services — keep voice and
music working, and keep you notified, while the app is in the background or
the screen is locked during a ride.
3. Who we share data with
We share data only as needed to run the app:
- Other riders in your ride — your location, display name,
speaking status and current song title, for the duration of that ride.
- Service providers that process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — hosts our database and sign-in (account,
rides, friends, notifications, ride history, emergency contacts).
- LiveKit — powers the real-time group voice and relays
live location between riders during a ride.
- Google Firebase (Analytics & Crashlytics) —
crash reporting and usage analytics.
- Map and routing services — map tiles (OpenFreeMap /
MapLibre) and OpenStreetMap-based routing and address search (OSRM,
Nominatim). Coordinates are sent to these services to load the map and
calculate routes.
- Legal reasons — if required by law or to protect the
safety and rights of users.
4. Data retention and deletion
Account, ride, friend and ride-history data is kept while your account
exists. Live location and voice are not retained after a ride ends. You can
request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing
filipv65@gmail.com;
we will delete it within 30 days, except where we must keep something to comply
with the law.
5. Security
Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS), and backend access is protected by
authentication and row-level security. No method of transmission or storage is
100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
6. Children
RideWave is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age
required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be
reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
